J. Marshall Buehler

Port Edwards village historian Marshall Buehler was born in 1927 in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Buehler family history has deep roots in the village. His father, August Beuhler, owned and operated the White City Store, a general mercantile run from the 1920s through the 1930s.

After Marshall graduated from John Edwards High School in Port Edwards in 1945, he worked 39 years at the Port Edwards paper mill. When he retired in 1999, he was the manager of customer relations.

Marshall became a charter member of the South Wood County Historical Corp. in 1955 and steadfastly supported sharing the area’s history until his passing in 2025. We are honored to have known and worked alongside him and will continue to share his knowledge.

The Nekoosa Story: A Commemorative History of Nekoosa Papers, Inc., was published in 1987 to commemorate 150 years of history from the early lumber mills to the formation of the Nekoosa Papers Inc. fine “watermark” paper.
